It's time for the Spring Fling writing contest! The challenge: create a spring-inspired story, limited to 150 words. This is a great way to get your creative mojo working if you're feeling blocked or need to step away from your WIP for minute. It's also a lot of fun to connect with other creatives in the kidlit community. Thanks to co-creators, author Ciara O'Neal and agent Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez, for hosting this fun event, and to all the generous judges and prize donors. You can learn more about the Spring Fling here.
Below, you'll find my entry and the gif that inspired it. Good luck to all of the participants!

Snowball's Spring Fling
Snowball worried. Spring was coming, and he was afraid of melting.
So when Boy saved him, Snowball slid behind the frozen peas,
hiding far from the hot, yellow Sun.
A year passed in the cold, safe freezer.
The light came on. The light went off.
Carrots came in. Waffles went out.
But mostly, things stayed just the same.
Dark. Cold. Safe.
Boring.
Ice Cube told tales of melted adventures.
"You'll float with the clouds, rumble with the rain, help the flowers grow.
There'll be rainbows! Puddles! Sprinklers! Ponds!
And when Winter whispers back, you'll be Snowball once again."
Snowball yearned. And dreamed. And finally dared.
He rolled to the font of the freezer.
Boy remembered. "A snowball in the Spring! Hurray!"
Snowball smiled up at the hot, yellow Sun.
Then Boy set him free.
Snowball sailed through the Spring skies,
ready to become the Rain.
